Mustangs Fall to Texas, 1-0, in Women's Soccer Season Opener
Aug. 26, 2005 Austin, Texas - The SMU women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Texas Friday night in Austin, snapping a 10-game season-opener winning streak. It was also the first time SMU has lost a game to the Longhorns - SMU went into the contest with a 7-0-1 series history advantage. The Mustangs and Longhorns remained scoreless until late in the first half as sophomore forward Kelsey Carpenter scored the lone goal of the game at the 43:23 mark Carpenter recorded two yellow cards in the contest and was removed from the game at the 61st-minute mark, giving SMU a one-player advantage. But the Mustangs could not capitalize on their scoring opportunities. SMU freshman goalkeeper Ashley Gunter (Lancaster, Pa.) made her collegiate debut, recording two saves. The Mustangs continue their opening weekend with a Sunday matinee in Lubbock vs. Texas Tech. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. The Lady Raiders fell to TCU in its season opener Friday, 4-0.
