SMU Mustang Swim Camps
Welcome to the SMU Mustang Swim Camp! Our goal is for you to have fun while training hard and learning from the best. The SMU camp offers one of the lowest camper to coach/counselor ratios of elite camps in the country, allowing the campers a unique opportunity to get individual attention from Olympic coaches, Olympic medalists and NCAA All-Americans.
While at the camp, you will have the opportunity to live in the dorms and eat at the SMU Dining Hall. On the first day of the camp each camper will be videotaped from underwater and above water. Your video footage will then be analyzed by SMU head women's coach (and coach of two time Olympic silver medalist Martina Moravcova) Steve Collins in a one-on-one session with you. The daily schedule includes 2 stroke sessions, 1 training session, 1 dryland session and 1 racing session. The stroke sessions will consist of a lecture and drill work with SMU head men's coach (and coach of 2 Olympic gold medalists) Eddie Sinnott. Coach Sinnott is known for his ability to relate stroke technique and drills to younger swimmers, and give them drills they can use throughout their careers. The training session takes place in SMU's beautiful outdoor 50 meter pool under the direction of coach Collins. The racing session is also conducted in the outdoor 50 meter pool, and gives you the opportunity to showcase the new skills you have learned. The assistant SMU men's and women's coaches, other coaches from around the country and current SMU swimmers will also be on deck during these sessions to give you additional feedback.
One of the most important aspects of this camp is our focus on having fun while working hard, learning new skills and becoming better swimmers. During the day, the SMU swimmers spend time getting to know the campers and having fun together. In the dorms the campers are monitored by coaches. Throughout the week we organize several games for all campers which promote teamwork and spirit. The racing session rounds off each day. One of the sessions is comprised of fun relays only. And on the last evening of the camp, it is time for the campers to put on a show and perform skits which have become legendary!
You will also receive a complimentary T-shirt, a swim cap, a water bottle and a camp booklet summarizing and highlighting what you will learn while at the camp. To find out more about the camp, please click on the links at the top of the page.
We look forward to seeing you this summer! We trust that will have one of the best camp experiences of your life!

Facilities
Pools-The campers will have exclusive use of both of the pools which the SMU Mustangs use for training and competition. Each day the stroke work will be done in the 6 lane, 25 yard Joe Perkins Natatorium. The size of this pool allows the coaches to be right on top of the campers, and gives them the opportunity to provide immediate feedback. Being an indoor pool, this also gives the campers a break from the Texas sun. The training and racing sessions are done in the outdoor 8 lane, 50 meter, Red Barr Pool. This pool provides the campers with plenty of lane space and allows them to improve their long course racing skills.
Housing-The campers stay in an SMU dorm which is assigned by the university as the camp nears. Each room sleeps two people. Roommates-Campers may request roommates. When two campers request each other as their #1 choice, they will be put together.
Dining-We will eat all meals at the main SMU Dining Hall. The food is served buffet-style and the campers may help themselves to more than one serving.
Equipment Needs
All campers should bring the following equipment: suits, goggles, caps, sunscreen, towels, athletic shoes and gym clothes. Overnight campers will also need bed linen or a sleeping bag, a pillow, a blanket and an alarm clock. Campers will not need fins, paddles, pull buoys or kickboards.
Supervision
The campers are monitored at all times by at least one member of the camp staff. No camper is ever allowed to go anywhere on campus without a member of the staff. The staff includes 4 coaches, 2 head counselors and 6 counselors. All counselors stay in the dorms overnight and are available in case of an emergency.
