The Director

The SMU Soccer Academy invites players of all levels who have the desire to improve and develop their talents. We will strive to give our campers a solid base of technical training combined with sound tactical instruction. We will utilize the latest playing and training techniques to help them play their best season ever. Each of our campers will receive individual and group instruction designed to meet his or her specific needs and capabilities. Our goal is for them to learn new skills as well as to improve upon those they already possess. We also strive to teach our campers how to train themselves for when they leave the academy.
SMU has traditionally been ranked among the top ten college soccer programs in the nation. The Mustangs' trip to the 2005 College Cup is just one of their recent successes. Over the years, many SMU players have been selected to play with the national team or drafted into the professional ranks. Day in and day out, our players experience intense training that is designed to develop their abilities to their utmost potential. We work hard to create these training sessions to maximize their abilities. At the Schellas Hyndman SMU Soccer Academy, we will continue the tradition of SMU excellence.
As camp director, I know that we can make a difference in your playing ability. Join us this summer!

The SMU Soccer Academy is one of the premier soccer camps in the United States. Coach Hyndman and his dedicated staff of coaches direct the Academy. This program is designed for boys who have a strong desire to improve their abilities as soccer players. Located on the SMU campus, players will participate in a challenging but fun week of soccer instruction. Once at the SMU Academy, players will be broken into small groups based on age and skill level. This allows every player to improve faster as well as receive more individual attention. The Academy will feature daily technical and tactical sessions, small-sided tournaments in the afternoon and full-sided games in the evening. During the morning sessions, we will teach and correctly demonstrate the skills needed to improve the player's individual technique. In the afternoon sessions players will be taught tactics, and small-sided games will be played to enable them to learn those tactics in an environment where they touch the ball frequently and make decisions repeatedly. The evening session consists of full-sided games in tournament format. During these games, the players are able to demonstrate the technique and tactics learned during the day. At the SMU Soccer Academy, we strive to teach the campers the skills that they need to improve along with how to use those skills in the game.
Teams are welcome at the camp. You may register together, and we will make sure they stay together with the same coach throughout the week. Parents are welcome to all evening sessions.

The SMU Soccer Day Camp is for both boys and girls 6 to 14 years of age. It will be held Monday through Friday 9:00am to 12:00 noon. The Day Camp offers instruction to players of all levels and is often the first soccer camp for many of our younger players. Players will be placed into groups according to their age and playing ability. They will receive both individual and group instruction. The Day Camp is based upon the morning session of our extremely popular SMU Soccer Academy residential program. At the SMU Soccer Day Camp, special attention will be placed on technique and skill development. An introductory goalkeeping session is also part of the curriculum. The staff for the Day camp will be experienced in both teaching and demonstrating the skills necessary for a player to improve to his or her full potential. The SMU Day Camp is perfect for the player who wants to improve in a fun environment.
There is a limited amount of space so please register early.
Check-In for the Day Camp is on Monday June 23, from 8-9 am.
Goalkeeper Program
The SMU Goalkeeper Camp runs concurrently with Residential Camp 1 & 2 and provides young goalkeepers of all levels a challenging program that will drive them to excel. The morning sessions will consist of detailed training in modern goalkeeping techniques. Such topics include catching, diving, breakaways, crosses and footwork. The afternoon sessions will focus on the fundamental tactics of goalkeeping such as positioning, distribution and communication. In the evening, the goalkeepers will join the field players to compete in tournament games where they will be allowed to demonstrate what they have learned. At the end of the week, each goalkeeper will be given a goalkeeper evaluation that will provide feedback on how they can improve. At the SMU Academy, goalkeepers can be confident they are getting the highest level of training possible.
College Soccer
Many of our older campers have aspirations to play soccer at the collegiate level. At the SMU Soccer Academy, we try to assist these players by giving them as much insight into the recruiting process as we can. A representative from the Sports Source College Soccer Recruiting Guide will come one evening and speak to all of the older players attending camp. This presentation is highly informative to the prospective student-athlete. The presentation is open to all parents and will conclude with a question and answer segment. Finally, the SMU Soccer Academy employs many college soccer coaches who can answer any questions the players may have during the week.
Additional Information
Meals & Lodging (Residential Camps)
The Radisson Hotel Central Dallas is the host of the SMU Soccer Academy. All the campers and the entire coaching staff will be staying at the hotel. Located on the very edge of the SMU campus, the Radisson Hotel is within walking distance of Westcott Field. The Radisson has recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation and is ranked among the top 5% of all Radisson Hotels in the country! All meals will be served in an all-you-can-eat format to ensure that every player's needs are met. The chefs of the Radisson will prepare the menu in consultation with Schellas Hyndman, Academy Director. Two players will be placed in each room. All towels and linens will be provided, as well as occasional room cleaning. The coaching staff will provide supervision along with hotel security.
What To Bring
DO NOT FORGET YOUR TENNIS SHOES! Other than the normal amount of street clothes we suggest that you bring the following items: 1 pair of flat soled or turf shoes, one pair of tennis shoes (very important), 6 t-shirts, 6 pairs of shorts, 8 pairs of socks, shin guards, 1 swim suit, small bag or shoe bag, sandals, water container, toiletries including sun block, and other soccer type clothes. Don't forget to bring your soccer ball if you did not buy one from the camp.
Medical Care
Each camp will have a full-time trainer from the SMU Sports Medicine staff on duty to take care of all minor injuries. For more serious problems, the local hospital is just minutes away.
Shuttle Service
For those campers who will be arriving by airplane, Dallas offers two airports that you may choose from. The first airport is DFW, which is the areas major airport. The second is Love Field, which is located very close to the SMU campus. Every major airline has flights into DFW and Southwest Airlines has flights into Love Field. Standard taxi fare from these two airports is $25-$50 each way. SMU Soccer Academy has made arrangements to provide service for $10 each way from Love Field, and $15 each way from DFW. The SMU Soccer Academy recommends flying Southwest Airlines into Love Field. For those making flight reservations, check-in is from 2:30-4:00pm on Sunday afternoon and check-out is at 12:30pm on Thursday afternoon. For your convenience, please pay the driver at the time of pick-up. Be sure to notify us of your flight information by contacting Kami Hyndman at kamhy95@sbcglobal.net or at 214-642-7562 no later than seven (7) days before your camp starts. This will help us to confirm your arrival and departure times and ensure that your travel needs are met.
Spending Money & Camp Store
The camp fee includes all the meals that the players will eat during the week. However, many players like to order pizza as a snack after the evening session. Also, some players may want to take advantage and buy the latest soccer gear at our camp store. Please make certain that campers are provided for appropriately.
